Beware Republicans and their devotion to that child-devouring idol, Moloch! I am reading First Things‘ R.R. Reno, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Glenn Beck, and other conservative luminaries recommend abandoning the elderly to the plague to preserve their American way of life. How much more blatantly can such soulless imperialism devour human flesh and frailty? Shall these awful, sanctimonious men urge us to abandon those million New Yorkers alone and let them rot? Or instead of watching them gasp their last in their beds, ought we slough them off coughing into the East and Hudson Rivers, their bodies floating and bloating past Wall Street, down beneath the Statue of Liberty?
My horror concretizes in Ginsberg’s vision of the American Moloch.
IIfrom “Howl” by Allen Ginsberg.
What sphinx of cement and aluminum bashed open their skulls and ate up their brains and imagination?

This is the true nature of modern American conservatism: the life of the dollar at the expense of humanity, itself. Did the Romans even sink so low?
